Northern League 2006 Season Review
Hello and welcome to my first Season Review! When I first took the Team Manager's job last year I set out a three year plan prioritising my targets to guide the team to success and to emulate past glories, I had no idea of the instant success we would achieve. I always knew with the lack of numbers from the women’s team due to the fixture clashes with the National League we would struggle but with a strong start to the season we finished second in the league reaching the play off final which we went on to win and gain promotion into the top flight of the Northern League.
The season has been one of many ups and downs for me as Team Manager, the lowest point being Round 3 at Bolton’s Leverhulme Park where due to an injury crisis and fixture clash we finished a disappointing 5th. However with the strong team around me of officials, athletes and coaches we all pulled in the same direction and steered the way to success and the play-off final.
The performances of the athletes all year was exceptional since everyone who turned out gave their all and pushed themselves sometimes in several events. It was also pleasing as Team Manager to see the amount of people making their Senior Team Debuts this season, not merely making up the numbers in the events, but putting themselves into positions to be competitive in them. This experience will undoubtedly be of benefit in next year’s competition when we compete against better opposition.
Next season is going to be tough, but with new signings and more juniors making their senior debuts, I know we will do well in the league and could triumph in the cup competition. I just want to take this opportunity to thank all those who have turned out this year from athletes to officials and the travelling support. I as Team Manager can only put a team together, it is down to us all to bring more success to the club. We have set ourselves a standard now and a strong foundation on which to build upon future success.
I want to thank everyone for their efforts over the season - it has been an awesome adventure but it’s only the beginning! Keep up the hard work over the winter months... and be good. Danny
