Mid Lancs Cross Country League 2006/2007 Fixture 5
The Wigan Harriers cross country squad made the short journey up the A49 to Chorley for the penultimate race of the season.
Friday’s snowfall did not deter the hardy runners and by the time the first race began little evidence of the snow remained apart from on the distant snow capped mountain! (Winter Hill).
The Under 11 girls once again turned out in force with all 7 runners finishing in the top 13. Some tough competition was encountered from Liverpool Harriers and the adult pacemaker! The Wigan Harriers finished as follows: Harriet Kneller (2nd), Natalie Thompson (3rd), Jessica Brookwell (7th), Sabrina Walley (8th), Amy Higham (10th), Emily Borthwick (12th) and Danielle Thompson (13th).
George Guest represented the Under 11 boys. A fast sprint at the end of the race saw George finish in 20th place.
The Under 13 girls Cherisse Walley and Michaela Brindle took to the forest trail. A tough course, which included crossing a fast running stream, saw Cherisse finish in 15th and Michaela 47th.
The Under 13 boys were represented by Thomas Kneller who turned in a fine performance to finish in 7th place.
Catherine Whitfield ran well in the Women’s Under 17 race to finish 7th enduring not only the tough race conditions but also part of the team tent falling in on her as it was blown by a strong gust of wind!
And finally a newcomer to the Mid Lancs race meetings was Danny Griffiths competing in the combined Junior and Senior men’s race. This was a tough course set over 10.3k. Danny powered his way to 2nd position in the junior men’s race and 12th overall.
Well done to all those who took part. The final Mid Lancs cross country race is at Witton Park, Blackburn on the 3rd of March. Lets try to get as many runners as we can for this race.
