Mid Lancs Cross Country League 2007/2008 Fixture 1

Worden Park, Leyland - Saturday 27th October 2007

A short sprint up the M6 took the Wigan Harriers cross country team to their first meeting of the season at Worden Park in Leyland. The heavy rain forecast for the afternoon didn’t materialise and the athletes had a fine autumnal afternoon in which to race. Everyone turned up just in time to see Chris put the last peg in the ground and to sellotape the final patch onto the Harriers tent. How do we all time it so well?

There was a fantastic turnout of the Black ‘n’ Red’s with what must be a record number of entries in recent times. The numbers were swelled by the participation of the triathlon team who we think cycled to Leyland after first stopping off for a mile or two swim at Chorley baths - and you middle distance runners thought training was hard!

The Primary Group runners turned out in force. The Friday night obstacle course around Robin Park football pitch had not deterred any of the team. Well done to all those who took part for the first time in a cross country race. Congratulations also go to the girls under 11’s who finished 1st in the team event.

We’ve now too many runners to mention all the individual performances but well done to all those who took part from the 8 year olds through to our ancient… I mean veteran over 50 runner Dave Culshaw who seems to be attracting a cult following.

The next race is at Townley Park Burnley 10th November for details go to Mid Lancs Website
