Mid Lancs Cross Country League 2007/2008 Fixture 1

Townley Park, Burnley - Saturday 10th November 2007

There was another strong turnout from Wigan Harriers for Round 2 across the majority of age groups. It was tough going with the rain, I am sure at some point it was raining upwards as umbrellas made no difference, but all the Harriers put in excellent performances. Hopefully by reading this you will want to run in the remaining races. Go on join in!

Due to the larger turnouts we are having at these events we have bought a new, bigger club tent (thanks Ken for getting a good deal). Please look out for it at future events as somewhere to meet, rest and chat. There is a picture of it below so that you will recognise it in future!

In the Under 11 Girls, out of a strong field of 45 runners they finished: Danielle Thompson (5th), Alice Bower (6th), Emily Borthwick (9th), Jess Melling (19th) and Hannah Swift (32nd). That’s an amazing 3 out of the top 10 being a Wigan Harrier.

In the Under 11 Boys, Wigan had two runners in this age group. They were Corey Booth who came home an excellent 8th followed by Jake Melling finishing in 21st.

In the Under 13 Girls, five girls turned out, meaning we again scored points for this round. Out of a strong field of 46 runners they finished: Natalie Thompson (16th) Amy Higham (19th), Jessica Brookwell (29th), Emilie Welsby (34th) and Katie Farrimond (39th). As a team we came fifth scoring 6 points which takes the girls up to an overall fifth place in the league. Well done!

In the Under 15 Girls, just one Harrier took part in the race, Megan Farrimond, who came home in 34th place.

In the Under 15 Boys, again just one Harrier in this race, Thomas Kneller, who came home in 26th place.

In the Under 17 Women, it is good to see some of our older Harriers having a go at x-country. Well done Aimee Backhouse who finished an excellent 6th. Sorry Aimee but we didn't manage to get a photograph of you!

In the Under 17 Men, again we had some of our older harriers turning out in this age group. They were Sam Russell (9th), Matthew Crehan (16th) and Oliver Stringer (32nd). Our three runners also qualified for team points finishing 5th.

The next race is at Sephton Park, Liverpool 24th November for details go to Mid Lancs Website
