Famous Faces
Listed on this page are some of the "famous faces" who have competed over the past few years (or even still do compete today!) for Wigan Harriers.
David Grindley
The former 400m record holder, Great Britain and Olympic athlete is still flying today, albeit as an airline pilot!
Kirsty Hunter
Kirsty was the World Youth Games Champion in 2000 at the 100m. The games, organised by the International Blind Sporting Association, was the highlight of Kirsty's season, where she brought home the Gold Medal. Although she is visually impaired, Kirsty regularly turns out for us in the Mid Lancs league where she proves that poor eyesight is no handicap for a top athlete. Kirsty is trained by Wigan sprint coach Don Moss, and in the long jump by International coach Peter Warden.
Rachael Kay
Another international - this time a 400m hurdler, who is also of international standard at 100 and 200 metres, and can turn a pretty fast indoor 60 metres hurdle as well!
Jenny Meadows
Jenny is another Wigan athlete to make the grade at international level. Here she is showing off her World Championships 4x400 relay gold medal which she won in Santiago (Chile) in 2000. You can find out more about Jenny's athletics career by going to the Senior Profiles section of our site.
Angie Thorp
Although Angie is now based in Yorkshire she is still a member of Wigan Harriers. She holds both a Club and British Record for the 100 metre hurdles which she set on 29th July 1996 at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA. She now works for the Fire Service in Yorkshire.
